Gergő Nagy started to study piano in his home town of Tasnád (Tășnad) in Szatmár (Satu Mare) County. In 2006 he enrolled at the Sigismund Toduţă High School of Music in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca), and in 2010 he was admitted to the city’s Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music, where he studied under Dr Adriana Bera. In 2010, he won a scholarship to spend a year studying at Lausanne’s Haute École de Musique under the guidance of pianist and conductor Jean-François Antonioli. He is currently earning his master’s degree at the Gheorghe Dima Academy while working as a répétiteur at the Hungarian Opera of Kolozsvár.
He has taken part in master courses with numerous artists, including Vlad Iftinca (at the New York Metropolitan Opera), Georg Sava and Peter Nelson (in Germany), Imre Rohmann, Tünde Kurucz and Martin Hughes (in Austria), Finghin Collins (in Switzerland), Jean-François Antonioli (in Spain), and Balázs Szokolay and Gábor Eckhardt (in Hungary). He has won awards at numerous national competitions, notably the grand prize at the 2009 Bach Festival in Kolozsvár and first prize at the 2010 National Olympiad in Beszterce (Bistrița). He also took third prize at the “Liszt200” International Piano Competition held in Kolozsvár in 2011.
Nagy has given numerous solo recitals both in Romania – in Kolozsvár, Bucharest, Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureș), Beszterce, Nagykároly (Carei) and Árkos (Arcuș) – and abroad – in Budapest, Lausanne and the Austrian town of Dürnstein. He has also appeared as a soloist with the philharmonic orchestras of Szatmárnémeti (Satu Mare) and Kolozsvár, with Kolozsvár’s Antonin Ciolan Orchestra and with the orchestra of the Hungarian Opera of Kolozsvár under the batons of conductors Noam Zur, Gheorghe Victor Dumănescu, István Novák, Zsolt Jankó and József Horváth.
Between 2014 and 2016, he was involved with the Academia Sighișoara festival as a répétiteur for the singing section. In 2017, he worked with the Cluj-Napoca Romanian National Opera, and he served as the piano accompanist at the Virginia Zeani Festival in Marosvásárhely in 2018.
