Tenor Hector Lopez Mendoz began his studies at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Mexico City, where he studied cello, saxophone, conducting and voice (under vocal teachers Francisco Araiza and Irma Gonzalez. He won a scholarship from SIVAM (International Society for Mexican Artistic Values) that opened the opportunity for him to study with masters like Renata Scotto, Enrique Patrón, Teresa Rodriguez, Nico Castel, Denise Massé and Joan Dornemann. He has sung in Mexico, the United States, Spain, Italy and other countries with conductors like Plácido Domingo, Enrique Patrón, Alfredo Silipigni, Enrique Ricci, Cristian Mandeal and Christian Badea.
In 2003, he won the Carlo Morelli International Singing Competition, resulting in his winning a scholarship to the Portland Opera Performance Institute, where he worked with Tito Capobianco, Justino Díaz, Shirley Verret, Daniel Orlando and David Lofton, among others.
His teachers at Milan's Academia alla Scala included Dante Mazzola, Enza Ferrari, Umberto Finazzi and Marco Gandini.
In 2004, at the invitation of the renowned Romanian tenor Ludovic Spiess, he began to work at the National Opera of Bucharest, where he has been a guest ever since and made his European début in La traviata.
He has also been a regular guest at the Moldova National Opera in Chişinău, the Opera na Zamku (in Szczecin, Poland) the Bucharest Radio Orchestra, the George Enescu Philharmonic and elsewhere.
In addition to studying with Spiess in Bucharest, he also studied with Cornel Stavru, another great Romanian tenor, and has participated in master classes with Viorica Cortez, Ion Piso, Ionel Pantea, Eduard Tumagian, Nelly Miricioiu, Kaludi Kaludov and Sorina Munteanu.
