Iowa native American conductor, Erik Nielsen received his bachelor degree as a double-major in oboe and harp at the Juilliard School of New York, played in the Berlin Philharmonics as a member of its Orchester-Akademie, and then became Kapellmeister of the Frankfurt Opera when he was only 31 years old. Ha has conducted in all over the world in the most famous venues. He will take up the positions of Chief Conductor of Bilbao Symphony Orchestra from September 2015 and Music Director of the Theater Basel with effect from the 2016/17 Season.
