Andu Dumitrescu studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Bucharest between 1989 and 1994. In Prague, in 1998, and in Milan the following year, he participated in the Meetings of the Young European Set Designers. He has taken part in numerous joint exhibitions in Bucharest, Prague, Lyon and Bulgaria, and in 1997 opened his own solo exhibition, titled Painting?, at Bucharest's International Centre for Contemporary Arts. Since the early '90s, he has worked as a set, costume and lighting designer on spoken-word and musical drama productions at both traditional and independent theatres. He has worked on multiple projects at several well-known theatres around Bucharest as well as at the Radu Stanca National Theatre in Sibiu, and has also worked at the Toma Caragiu Theatre in Ploieşti, the Hungarian State Theatre of Cluj and the Iaşi National Theatre. He has received numerous awards and recognitions over the course of his career, including being honoured by the Romanian Union of Artists in 1990 for the posters he had designed during the Romanian Revolution of the previous year and winning the grand prize at the “Theatre of Tomorrow” section of the 1996 Romanian National Theatre Festival for his designs for Look Back in Anger, the award for best scenography at the 2007 Romanian Dramaturgy Festival in Timișoara for his work on a production of Sado maso blues bar and a UNITER (Romania's annual theatre awards) special prize in 2010 for his video concept for the production of Faust in Sibiu.
