Gábor Bretz

For several years now the Hungarian State Opera has been presenting the Prima Donnas concert series, which this year will be expanded to include two “Heroes” alongside the female singers. Few heroes could be more fitting than bass-baritone Gábor Bretz, who has performed in nearly every major opera house in the world, embodied a wealth of bass-baritone roles – and, after many prizes and honors, was awarded the Kossuth Prize in 2024. Budapest audiences too have seen him in numerous roles (Mephistopheles, Bluebeard, Don Giovanni, Escamillo, Filippo II – and the list could go on); this year he takes on the role of Colline in La bohème.
