A grand season opener awaits fans of opera, ballet and classical music on 24 September 2016. On Saturday, following various open-air programmes, operatic life will resume with a new production of La traviata.
In the afternoon of 24 September, popular commedia dell'arte operas can be seen at the Sphinx Terrace of the Opera House in Dalszínház Street: first, two comic operas by Donizetti, Il campanello – The Night Bell (at 1 p.m.)and I pazzi per progetto – Madmen by Design (at 3 p.m.), and finally, Menotti's The Telephone (at 5 p.m.). Visiting these open-air performances is free. In case of bad weather they may be cancelled.
In front of the Opera House, a stage is built, where the audience can see a special ballet production entitled Between the Balance and video installations as well as the return of the stars of the Opera in a spectacular convoy. There will be 1200 chairs on the street this Saturday again so that the same number of people can enjoy the premiere of La Traviata on the giant screen erected outside just as if they were inside the Opera House. The audience will be greeted by Dr. Zsófia Hassay, mayor of the district Terézváros, and Szilveszter Ókovács, general director of the Opera.
