On 10 February, 2018, French tenor superstar Roberto Alagna and Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak will make their debut on the stage of the Erkel Theatre during our Ring Gala. They will perform popular duets and arias from Romeo et Juliette, L'elisir d'amore, Otello, Gianni Schicchi and Madama Butterfly.
Directed by artistic director Ferenc Anger and ballet director Tamás Solymosi and conducted by principal music director Balázs Kocsár, the Ring Gala will feature the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra and Chorus, the Hungarian National Ballet and soloists Viktória Mester and Csaba Szegedi. According to the theme of "Around the Ring" season, they will perform pieces by Wagner and other composers inspired by him. Melodies by Wagner also inspired the opening waltz composed by Róbert Gulya. Hosts of the carnival gala are popular TV presenter Noémi Morvai and general director Szilveszter Ókovács.
