The internationally renowned tenor is Otello at the Opera.
José Cura is a frequent guest in Hungary, and once again he returns in one of his emblematic roles. Following the general rehearsal on 6 February when students, large families and pensioners can see the tenor in the course of the programme entitled Opera for Everyone, he makes two more appearances on 8 and 11 February. José Cura plays the role of Otello in the production by László Vámos alongside with Polina Pasztircsák as Desdemona and Anatolij Fokanov as Iago. The performances are conducted by Marco Comin.
José Cura was born in Argentina in 1962. He studied at the Music School at the Universidad Nacional de Rosario , later he won a grant to study at the Teatro Colón in Buenos. Determined to make a career in opera, José Cura moved to Italy in 1991 and began voice training. Soon, his career took off: in 1994 he won the first prize of Plácido Domingo's Operalia competition as well as the popularity vote. On 2 December 2010 he received the prestigious title Österreichischer Kammersänger at the Vienna State Opera. He has toured all over the world from America to Japan.
