It is hereby announced that in accordance with the current regulations on the pandemic, all public performances and programmes of the Hungarian State Opera are cancelled. The performances of the OperaLive series streamed live free on Facebook are to continue. During the festive season, complete performances of The Nutcracker and La bohème as well as an earlier New Year's concert will also become available to watch. In January 2021, a new paid livestream service is also going to be introduced.
In December and January, the performances of OperaLive streamed online free on Facebook and Origo.hu is to continue. In the OperaWednesday series, viewers can see highlights of opera performances that had to be cancelled due to the epidemic including Die Zauberflöte, Die Fledermaus, La traviata and Der Zigeunerbaron. The Masquerade aria recitals (every Saturday and Sunday in 2020, every Friday and Sunday from 2021) features the most excellent Hungarian soloists, whereas the Terzet-Trio-Trois series presents chamber pieces (on Fridays in 2020, on Mondays from 2021). During the festive season, further full-scale productions will become available to watch free: The Nutcracker from 3 p.m. on 24 December, and a New Year's concert from 3 p.m. on 1 January.
From January 2021, a paid livestream service is to be introduced featuring complete opera and ballet productions. Several Hungarian theatres have already began to charge a small fee for these streams to maintain the high artistic quality and ensure the artists' payment. The performances streamed will include both new productions and repertoire pieces. In case the restrictions are eased in the meantime, the premiere performances will become public again at our theatres.
