The Hungarian State Opera holds a general audition in two rounds for singers of all registers.
The first round of the audition will take place on 18 April 2016 from 11.00 am in a rehearsal room on the 7th floor of the office building of the Hungarian State Opera (1061 Budapest, 11 Hajós Street, opposite the artists’ entrance of the Opera House). Applicants selected for the second round will have the possibility to sing on the stage of the Hungarian State Opera on 19 April 2016.
For the two rounds, singers should prepare a total of 5 arias of choice, with emphasis on roles they know fully. Singers with lyric registers should prepare at least one Mozart aria. An official pianist is available on request. Please mention in the application if you are coming with your own pianist.
Applications should be submitted by e-mail: auditionopera@opera.hu before midnight on 11 April 2016. All applications should contain: a professional biography, an exact date of birth, a portrait and a full-length photo, an audio or video recording not older than one year in mp3 or mp4 format, a phone number and the list of the arias of choice. It is solely the applicants’ responsibility to submit a complete application. The Hungarian State Opera can’t be obliged to ask for missing documents. Incomplete applications and those arriving after the given deadline will not be accepted.
After the registration of all applications, the jury will make a preliminary selection on the basis of the material sent. Singers accepted for the first round will receive an invitation by e-mail before midnight 15 April 2016 and will get the exact time-table of the first round. Applicants will be informed in due time about acceptance to the 2nd round of the audition and about the schedule, no individual requests regarding scheduling can be considered. The Hungarian State Opera reserves the right not to give explanation of its professional decisions.
