The Greek tenor Vassilis Kavayas, a graduate of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, is an established interpreter of the bel canto repertoire, as well as works by Rossini and Mozart, while also maintaining an active engagement with the German repertoire.
In the 2025/26 season, his engagements include Don Pasquale in Athens, Il barbiere di Siviglia in Bucharest and Thessaloniki, Salome at the Megaron – Athens Concert Hall, Falstaff at the Greek National Opera, and L’italiana in Algeri in Budapest. In 2024/25, he appears in L’italiana in Algeri at NorrlandsOperan (Umeå) on the occasion of the theatre’s 50th anniversary, as well as in Die Fledermaus and Il barbiere di Siviglia in Athens. His 2023/24 season includes Falstaff in Athens, Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Don Giovanni at Göteborg Opera, and Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny in Athens. In 2021 and 2022, he sang in Idomeneo, Elpis Patridos, Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Don Giovanni in Athens and Göteborg. Between 2019 and 2020, he appeared La Cenerentola in Stockholm, in Athens in La sonnambula, Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria, Wozzeck, and Don Giovanni, as well as in L’italiana in Algeri in Budapest.
Earlier engagements include performances at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Rossini Festival Wildbad, Göteborg Opera, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, BOZAR Brussels, the Krakow Festival, and the Royal Opera House (Linbury Studio Theatre), with repertoire ranging from Mozart and Rossini to Handel, Gluck, and 20th-century opera.
He took part in the first modern revival of Gluck’s Il trionfo di Clelia as Porsenna, recorded by MDG with Armonia Atenea, and later performed the role at the Royal Opera House (Linbury Studio) in London and Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
